I have known Roxanne for most of my life – we met in primary school, bonded over Harry Potter and boys (of course!) and kept the friendship up throughout high school and even now, 10 years after leaving school!

I was so happy when she told me she was engaged to Schalk and she immediately set to wedding planning! I helped along the way as best I could, using my 100+ weddings worth of experience to give some advice and guidance. It was quite a treat to be on the planning side of a wedding I would be photographing and to see it all come to life was beautiful.

They got married at Chris-Elle, a venue out in Swellendam, on the windiest day of the year. But as I say to clients all the time, embrace the wind, it makes everything seem way more dramatic! I enjoyed shooting at this venue, surrounded by mountains and lots of beautiful light.

Knowing all the guests at the wedding makes it a very different experience to normal and I found myself feeling part guest, part photographer. I hope that reflects in the photos that there is a personal element to them as well.
