Fun fact! I used to work for a photography studio

Fun fact! I used to work for a photography studio that exclusively did studio sessions and school photos. So sometimes I do still get asked whether I do studio sessions, and the answer is both yes and no.
Let me explain...
I will do studio shoots for small family groups or individuals, at select natural-light studios. I won’t do large groups or sessions that require external lighting. Hiring a studio is an extra bit of admin, and an extra cost and finding a space that works can be challenging.
I do enjoy the beautiful ease of a studio, and the switch of focus from beautiful locations to little details.

The privilege to watch a family grow and change with the years is something I’ll never take for granted. The Hastings Family come out to South Africa often enough that we’re able to do catch up shoot sessions, and it’s a pleasure every.single.time.
When I see an inbox message from them, I know I’m in for something beautiful, and there is nothing more special than having somebody come back to me for photos after a year, two years or even decades. I’ve been in this long enough to know that being called on - again - is the highest honour.

Photoshoots with very little ones can be risky, an

Photoshoots with very little ones can be risky, and a lot of parents just avoid doing shoots at this time because you never know if everybody is going to play along or have a tough time with it.
My suggestion is always to get the “classic” photos out of the way first, and then give the little ones a break while mom and dad have photos together before regrouping for some play at the end.
Sometimes it means you have a beloved stick in your family photos, but that’s what makes the memories 😂☀️
